As an active performer on the international stage, Professor He Rong has served as principal violist for renowned international music festivals and orchestras, including the Bellingham Festival of Music (USA), Oregon Coast Music Festival (USA), and the Spoleto Festival USA. He has performed with top-tier orchestras worldwide, such as the Ohio Ballet Orchestra (USA), New England Chamber Orchestra (USA), Asia Philharmonic Orchestra (Japan), Shanghai Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Macao Symphony Orchestra.
With decades of dedicated work in education, Professor He Rong has taught at institutions including the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute (USA), the Heifetz International Music Academy (USA), and the Great Mountains Music Festival & School (South Korea). From 1990 to 1999, he served as Chair of the Orchestral Department at the School of the Arts, College of Charleston (USA). After returning to China in 1999 as a Distinguished Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, he spearheaded the establishment of China's first Viola Teaching and Research Office, founded the China Youth Chamber Orchestra, and served as its Artistic Director and Conductor. He is regularly invited to give masterclasses and academic seminars at major conservatories worldwide.
Currently, he also holds positions as a Visiting Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the China Conservatory of Music, Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra at the Affiliated High School of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, and Vice President of the Beijing Musicians Association's Children's Violin and Viola Education Society. Additionally, he serves as a jury member for international viola competitions, including the Primrose International Viola Competition (USA) and the Tertis International Viola Competition (UK). His honors include being recognized as a "New Century Excellent Talent" by the Ministry of Education and receiving the "Virtue and Artistry" award for literary and artistic workers in Beijing. He has also been invited to serve as the General Cultural and Artistic Advisor to Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province, and as the Honorary Village Head of Danjiang Village, Pingyang Township, Rongjiang County.
During his tenure as Chief Librarian of the Central Conservatory of Music, Professor He Rong led the creation of Asia's exclusive Bach archive, containing nearly 20,000 documents from the 16th century to the present. He also established China's first comprehensive digital archives for full orchestral scores, violin-making resources, and rare audio-visual materials, developed an online reading system for master's and doctoral theses, and pioneered the world's first professional smart practice room and management system, which has been widely adopted by music institutions across China.
Professor He Rong has compiled, edited, and annotated nearly 100 viola works, beginner tutorial series, and scale textbooks (some of which have been published). As a pioneering figure in the intersection of technology and the arts, his recent innovations—including WING brand children's violas, string series, smart practice rooms, AI smart violin cases, and related AI-powered products—are being promoted and applied both domestically and internationally, injecting sustained momentum into the popularization and development of viola art.
