Strings Warm the Winter: The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao Cello Faculty-Student New Year Concert Invitation

As the year draws to a close, the sound of strings brings warmth and a fresh start. On the evening of December 19, the Cello Teaching and Research Office of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao will present a special New Year concert featuring both teachers and students. Under the leadership of Professor Yu Mingqing, Director of the Cello Teaching and Research Office, the performers will present a range of classic works through solo, ensemble, and orchestral performances, showcasing the profound charm of the cello and the rich achievements of systematic music education.

The performing students span from elementary through high school levels. The program is thoughtfully designed, ranging from the classic melody of Saint-Saëns' "The Swan" and the classical elegance of Boccherini’s sonatas to profound excerpts from concertos by Brahms, Elgar, and others. Audiences will be able to witness the progress of students at different learning stages and feel how performing techniques and musical expression steadily develop through systematic training.

Students from the Cello Teaching and Research Office have consistently achieved excellent results in prestigious competitions such as the Chinese Music Golden Bell Awards and other international contests. Graduates have successfully advanced to further studies at world-renowned music institutions, including the Royal College of Music (RCM) in the UK and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. This concert is not only an artistic presentation but also an audible and tangible demonstration of professional excellence and educational outcomes.
