"New Paths in Sound" Modern Piano Works Concert | December 23, Hear the Sound of Growth

On December 23 at 19:00, the Keyboard Teaching and Research Office of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao will present a meticulously prepared concert titled "New Paths in Sound," dedicated to modern piano works. Under the guidance of a faculty team led by Professor Xu Fei, Director of the Keyboard Teaching and Research Office, several students will take the stage, using the piano keys to outline the stylistic spectrum of contemporary music.

The concert program spans from the 20th century to the present, featuring works by minimalist pioneer Philip Glass, folk-inspired master Béla Bartók, atonal innovator Arnold Schoenberg, iconic minimalist John Adams, as well as classics by composers such as Alberto Ginastera and Sergei Prokofiev. Moving beyond the classical framework, the repertoire includes everything from refined etudes suitable for middle-grade students to complex contemporary expressions for advanced performers. It not only guides the audience through the evolution of music across eras but also thoughtfully aligns with the performance abilities of students across different grades, fully showcasing the diverse appeal of piano art in a modern context.

The performing students span from Grade 4 to Grade 12. Each performer embodies the tangible outcomes of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao’s Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) and systematic professional instruction. From precise technical training to profound musical interpretation, the concert vividly reflects the steady growth of students under the mentorship of faculty and within the school's K–12 integrated curriculum system.
