Scores from the Long River | Alumni from the World's Top Music Schools Return to Fulfill Their Menuhin Promise

Music is a river. Some set out from here, swimming toward broader seas; others stand on the bank, gathering strength for their own departure.

At 19:00 on 29 June, the “Scores from the Long River” Alumni Concert of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao will resound in the Menuhin Hall: eight distinguished graduates, having honed their artistry abroad, will return to share the stage with current students and faculty from the Keyboard Department, reconnecting with the musical aspirations that first took root across time.

The programme spans classical to modern repertoire, from Mozart’s elegance to Piazzolla’s romanticism—each piece a sincere testament to the young performers' dialogue with music.

The eight young musicians who once set out from Menuhin Qingdao have now followed the river of music to leading institutions around the world:

Wang Weikuan – pursuing a double major in violin and viola at The Juilliard School, awarded second prize in the Viola Concerto Competition;

Li Minglun – studying classical guitar at The Juilliard School, champion of the Undergraduate Division at the Columbus International Guitar Competition;

Jing Haoran – studying at the Manhattan School of Music, under Eugene Drucker, a founding member of the Emerson String Quartet;

Wang Qianwen – studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under Professor Chen Jiafeng, specialising in solo and chamber music;

Liao Enhui – studying at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark, under a faculty member of the Danish Piano Teachers' Association;

Li Hao – studying at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, winner of the first prize at the Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition;

Yong Yifan – studying at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore under Zhao Yingxue of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra;

Han Jing – pursuing a double major at Raffles College of Music in Singapore, serving as concertmaster of the college orchestra, and amassing over 50,000 followers as a self-media content creator.

Having already achieved distinction in their respective institutions, they have now returned from New York, Singapore, Birmingham, Aarhus, and beyond—across different time zones, to the same stage in Qingdao. Alumni, current students, and faculty performing side by side ensure that the musical river of Menuhin continues to flow.

The previous generation rediscovers its original aspirations, while the next finds its direction. On the evening of 29 June, you are warmly invited to scan the QR code on the event poster to register for campus entry, and join us in the Menuhin Hall for a musical reunion that transcends generations.
