On June 16 at 7:00 p.m., the fourth piano student concert in the “Our Music Moments” series, organized by the Keyboard Department of the Qingdao Yehudi Menuhin School, will take place in Menuhin Hall.
Thirteen students, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 11, will perform in succession. In a single concert, the audience will witness a full spectrum of artistry—from the earnest touch of young beginners first exploring the keyboard to the assured interpretation of classical masterpieces.
Students in the lower grades will present Huang Huwei’s The Merry Shepherd Boy and Mozart’s Lovely Waltz, works that are simple and radiant. Lv Jin’ang, a Grade 4 student, will perform Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons, October. Xu Xingchen, Grade 5, will play Die Fledermaus (arranged by Grünfeld after Johann Strauss Jr.’s operetta), a piece of considerable technical difficulty and brilliant character. The programme also includes Chinese works such as Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon (arranged by Wang Jianzhong) and Xiao Tai’s Farewell Etude. Upper-grade students will take on Chopin’s Polonaise in A‑flat major, Op. 53 “Heroic”, Debussy’s The Sunken Cathedral, and Haydn’s Sonata in E‑flat major—works that demand both advanced technique and profound musical understanding.
Professor Xu Fei, Head of the Keyboard Department, once remarked: “A performer’s growth is inseparable from the forge of the stage. At Qingdao Menuhin, taking the stage is a compulsory part of every student’s education. Whether in lunchtime concerts, semester reports, or special events like ‘Our Music Moments,’ our aim is to help students develop communication skills, build confidence, and grasp the true meaning of music through authentic performance experiences.”
