When the crystalline clarity of the flute meets the rich warmth of the clarinet, and the mellow expressiveness of the oboe intertwines with the deep resonance of the bassoon, a musical journey dedicated to the woodwind family is about to unfold.
On the evening of Wednesday, June 3, the Woodwind Department Spring Concert "The Voice of Woodwinds II" will take place in Menuhin Hall, with piano collaborative artist Xiao Xiyuan providing accompaniment. Students from the flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon programs will perform solo works by Devienne, Bärmann, Kalivoda, and Hummel. Two woodwind quintets (by Danzi and Haydn) will each take the stage, showcasing the phased achievements of chamber music instruction. The finale—Riehl's Sextet in E‑flat major—will feature three faculty members, Professor Li Lansong (Director of the Woodwind Department), Professor Man Yi (horn), and clarinet teacher Zhang Ning, each performing alongside one of their students. The warmth of mutual growth through teaching is woven into the very fabric of this ensemble performance.
From solos to ensembles, and finally to faculty-student collaboration on stage—this concert is both a presentation of pedagogical outcomes and a shared musical journey. Join the "Menuhin Philharmonic" WeChat group to receive priority access to ticket registration and the latest performance updates. We look forward to welcoming you to the hall.
