May 25 | Thomas Rosenkranz and His Students: A Piano Night of Fantasy Between Black and White Keys

The beauty of music lies in its power to transform individual thoughts and emotions into countless colors and feelings upon the black and white keys. On May 25 (Monday) at 7:30 p.m., the piano concert "Fantasy Between Black and White Keys" will be performed in Menuhin Hall. This concert will be presented by our school's Music Director and Piano Professor Thomas Rosenkranz, together with seven outstanding students and piano collaborative teacher Zhang Jingxuan.

As Music Director of Qingdao Yehudi Menuhin School, Professor Thomas oversees the school's entire music education system while integrating decades of international performance and teaching experience into daily instruction. This concert serves as a concentrated showcase of the pedagogical achievements of both himself and the Keyboard Department, and equally as a vivid practice of the "holistic education" philosophy within piano instruction—using music as a medium to cultivate students' independent artistic expression and aesthetic perception, enabling every child to find their own voice on the black and white keys.

About this concert, Professor Thomas Rosenkranz shares in advance:

"This concert will explore the rich emotional layers, beauty, and tonal colors of piano repertoire. Each piece has been carefully chosen to reveal a unique side of the performing student—their personality, imagination, and distinctive musical voice.

The concert is divided into three main sections: Chinese piano works, French piano works, and works by Frédéric Chopin. The audience will enjoy a diverse selection of pieces spanning multiple periods and styles—from Classicism and Romanticism to Impressionism and contemporary Chinese music. Notably, a new work composed by Sun Zhihao, a Grade 9 student, will also receive its premiere at this concert.

The process of preparing for this concert has been equally joyful and inspiring. What is most gratifying is witnessing the students' passion for music, their curiosity, and their dedication and sincerity in sharing music with others."
