On October 25, the Global Chinese Youth Concert for World Peace was held in Shanghai, bringing together exceptional young performers from across the global Chinese community. Renowned international conductor Tang Muhai served as the artistic director and conductor of the event, which highlighted the theme of world peace and aimed to foster cultural exchange among Chinese youth while promoting the integration of Eastern and Western arts.
Given the outstanding achievements of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao in nurturing young musical talent, the school was invited to participate in this significant public charity event. The school selected Wang Weikuan, a 12th-grade violin major, and Liu Zuohan, an 8th-grade violin student, to represent the school. Wang Weikuan performed the prelude to "The Butterfly Lovers" as the concert's finale solo, while both students also participated in the orchestra for the entire performance. Conductor Tang Muhai highly praised the students' professionalism, emphasizing their exceptional musicianship and their embodiment of social responsibility.
Rehearsals under the Guidance of Maestro Tang Muhai
Reflecting on the experience, Wang Weikuan shared: "This performance carried a great deal of responsibility, and the rehearsals were intense, but I was thrilled. I had the privilege of receiving thoughtful guidance from Maestro Tang Muhai throughout the preparation process. Additionally, President Lu Siqing personally provided multiple coaching sessions on the key aspects of 'The Butterfly Lovers' to help me perfect my performance. World peace is a profound theme tied to the shared destiny of humanity, and I feel immensely proud to have represented our school in this important charity event. Through this opportunity, I not only shared experiences with young musicians from around the world but also realized that each of us bears a responsibility to engage in public service and inspire others through our actions.”
As Maestro Yehudi Menuhin once said, "We must not only cultivate great musicians but also nurture open-minded, well-rounded individuals who contribute to universal harmony." Students at The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao, inspired by this philosophy of holistic education, are committed to the pursuit of musical excellence, personal growth, and their responsibilities as global citizens.
