Flute Harmony · Building the Future Together | The flute exchange activities successfully held between The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao and the Central Conservatory of Music

On June 14th, as applause in the Menuhin Hall surged like tidal waves after the final flute note, nearly 200 teachers, students, and parents from across the country lingered, unwilling to leave, marking a successful conclusion to the flute exchange series jointly organized by the Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao and the Central Conservatory of Music.

Seminar: Resonance within the Industry

Professor Han Guoliang, who serves as a flute professor at both the Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao and the Central Conservatory of Music, captivated everyone's attention with his profound artistic background. As a flutist who once performed alongside the maestro Yehudi Menuhin, his career itself is an "international music textbook." With this deep understanding of music education, he particularly emphasized: "The 'holistic education' concept advocated here at the Menuhin School Qingdao perfectly aligns with my lifelong educational pursuit. The children we nurture should not only excel in flute skills but also possess a global perspective. As a native of Shandong, it feels particularly heartwarming to pursue music dreams with everyone in my hometown. I will definitely go all out to help the children surpass themselves!"

Professor Han's powerful words sparked enthusiastic responses: Xiang Zhaonian, President of the Shandong Flute Professional Committee and professor and master's supervisor at Shandong University of Arts, remarked, "We are all deeply proud that Qingdao has such an international music institution!" Liu Xinqi, Executive Director of the China Flute Professional Committee and President of the Qingdao Flute Professional Committee, echoed, "The professional platform of YMSQ has injected new vitality into flute talent cultivation!"

Masterclass: One-on-One Refinement and Guidance

In the Menuhin Hall, experts and professors provided personal guidance to lucky students from across the country. From breath control to phrase processing, the masters transformed technique into art with precise instructions. Among the packed audience were teachers taking notes with bated breath, students eagerly observing, and parents filled with anticipation. One observing teacher remarked, "Even without being on stage, the masters' interpretation of tone processing has enlightened me."

Concert: From Exquisite Solos to a Hundred-Flute Symphony

The concert opened with Mozart's "Trio in F Major" performed by students from our school, Huang Kexin, Liu Yudi, and Wang Xinyu. Teachers and students from the Central Conservatory of Music subsequently presented classics such as "The Swiss Shepherd" and "Concerto in E Minor," showcasing both technique and artistry. The most breathtaking moment arrived unexpectedly—as the applause at the end had not yet subsided, Professor Han Guoliang led teachers and students from both schools onto the stage. With 120 flutes playing in unison, the majestic flute sounds surged like a spring tide. The teachers and students on stage were connected heart to heart, while the audience responded with enthusiastic applause. The concert, originally scheduled for 90 minutes, continued for two hours and still struggled to conclude. "This is a collective tribute to the art of the flute!" remarked flute teachers present, voicing the sentiments of all.

Echo: With the Flute as the Medium, Marching Towards the Future Together

Through this large-scale series of activities, we witnessed not only the flourishing of skills but also the responsibility to nurture the future: Guests attending the event stated after the performance, "The professionalism and enthusiasm of YMSQ have shown us a promising future for the continuous growth and development of the flute profession! Moreover, the systematic cultivation model of K12 music education is highly worthy of promotion in China."
