Strings of Warmth, a Future Toward Goodness: The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao's Charitable Journey with the Dongrun Foundation

Young Voices on the Charitable Stage

On December 6th in Beijing, warmth filled the air at the 10th Anniversary Commemoration of the Dongrun Foundation's "A Decade of Cultivation, Moving Forward with Love" charity event. Lu Siqing, Founding Principal of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao and internationally renowned violinist, led faculty and students in attending and delivering a spectacular performance, once again lending their support to charity. He was joined by violin teacher Guo Siyan, violin students Ma Yicheng, Zheng Hanzhi, Zhao Zijun, viola student Luo Zhiyuan, and cello student He Suyan. With their solid technical skills and seamless collaboration, they infused the venue with clear and warm musical notes.

Ms. Kong Dongmei, Chairperson of the Dongrun Foundation, engaged in a warm conversation with the faculty and students after the performance, highly praising the students for their continuous progress and proactive participation in charitable activities. Principal Lu Siqing remarked, "Enabling the younger generation to understand service and dedication through their artistic growth is a vital lesson in music education."

Gaining Momentum Through Charitable Support

As a young institution, The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao has received continuous support from various sectors of society and charitable organizations since its inception. In August 2024, the Dongrun Foundation, which has long been dedicated to supporting education and helping those in need—particularly making outstanding contributions to youth education and development—established the "Dongrun Starlight Scholarship" specifically at our school. This scholarship aims to encourage faculty and students who continually strive for excellence under the guidance of the "Holistic Education" philosophy.

Charitable Practice: From Receiving to Giving

The essence of education is to cultivate "complete individuals." "Holistic Education" concerns not only the honing of artistic skills but also the understanding and acceptance of social responsibility. The encouragement that The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao continually receives naturally transforms into practical actions dedicated to giving back to others and warming society.

Whether it is our faculty and students regularly visiting retirement communities to perform charity concerts, opening up Menuhin's teaching and curriculum to share the joy of art with visually impaired peers from schools for the blind, participating in youth performances themed around world peace, or joining the "China-UK Charity" concert to forge international friendships—all these actions vividly demonstrate that the value of art lies not only in its brilliance on stage, but also in how it can illuminate more places. They also ensure that our "future musicians" not only possess exceptional musical artistry, becoming outstanding musicians or comprehensive talents in music-related fields, but also grow into friendly, thoughtful individuals with a strong sense of social responsibility, ready to make remarkable contributions to society at any time.
