When the profundity of classical music meets the vastness of the ocean, what artistic resonance is born? On the evening of December 27th, the Qingdao Concert Hall, located near the iconic Zhanqiao Pier, glittered with starlight and resounded with waves of applause. "The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao New Year Concert" (YMSQ New Year Concert) was held here grandly, presenting a musical feast of both international standard and humanistic warmth to the coastal city at the year's end. This marked the first time the young Menuhin School Qingdao stepped out of its campus to present a New Year concert with a brand-new lineup, serving as a tribute and a gift to Qingdao, the "Island of Music and City of Arts," as the year drew to a close .

Led by Founding Principal Lu Siqing, the concert brought together renowned Chinese and international faculty from various academic departments, outstanding current students, and distinguished alumni. The program was meticulously curated, with one climax following another. The Brass and Percussion Department faculty and students opened the concert with the magnificent grandeur of Paul Dukas' "Fanfare" and Li Xuhao's "March of the Steel Torrent"; the Violin Department successively presented "Bohemian Fantasy" based on Dvořák's melodies and a string version of "Red Flowers Blooming All Over the Mountain" arranged by Liu Qi; the piano solo "My Chinese Heart" wove together several classic melodies, expressing profound feelings for one's homeland; and the performance of the "Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor" by a young pianist with the electronic keyboard orchestra was exceptionally powerful. From opera classics performed by the Vocal Department, to exquisite "musical dialogues" within the Woodwind Department, to the innovative interpretation of Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons: Summer" by classical guitar faculty and students, and the performances of "Yao Dance" and Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for Strings" by the Menuhin String Orchestra—all showcased a broad artistic vision and an artistic standard comparable to the world's best .

"Teachers and students on the same stage, teaching benefits teachers and students alike" became a touching thread throughout the concert. Whether it was the four-hand piano duet of Johann Strauss Jr.'s "Die Fledermaus Overture" performed by faculty and students with seamless默契, the "Grand Tango" presented jointly by international professors, or the heartfelt ensemble of "My Motherland" by the Cello Department faculty and students conveying patriotic sentiments, the artistic heritage between teachers and students was profoundly moving. Wang Weikuan, an outstanding alumnus from the Class of 2025 who traveled back to Qingdao specifically from The Juilliard School, gave back to his alma mater with a violin adaptation of Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2," highlighting the gratitude and growth of a Menuhin student who has already stepped onto the world stage.

The pinnacle of the concert was ignited by Principal Lu Siqing, who, together with faculty and students from the string orchestra, performed Vivaldi's "Concerto for Four Violins and String Orchestra." From a young Qingdao student personally selected by Menuhin master to a renowned founding principal returning with honors, Lu Siqing's artistic journey perfectly exemplifies the artistic cycle of "going global from Qingdao and bringing the world back to Qingdao," elevating the atmosphere at the venue to its zenith .

This sought-after New Year concert, with tickets in high demand, lasted nearly two and a half hours. All audience members were completely immersed in the music, holding their breath in concentration, and at the end of each piece, erupted into thunderous applause. In addition to the live audience, nearly 10,000 people enjoyed the performance via live stream. One audience member commented after the concert, "This New Year concert, independently produced by a professional school, is truly distinctive. All the programs demonstrated a professional standard comparable to that of international troupes. It's truly something to be proud of that Qingdao has such a school; the substance of our 'Island of Music' is growing increasingly rich" .
As the last note faded into the dome of the concert hall, The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao New Year Concert came to a successful conclusion. Throughout the past year of 2025 and the preceding three years, the young Menuhin School Qingdao has continuously received support, help, applause, and acclaim from all sectors of society. This New Year concert was precisely a New Year's gift dedicated to Qingdao, the "Island of Music," and a New Year's blessing extended to everyone. Carrying all the expectations and encouragement, the school continues to forge ahead towards its goal of becoming the "Cradle for Future Musicians in the East of the World."
