On June 28, the 10th National Congress of the Chinese Musicians’ Association concluded in Beijing. Lu Siqing, Founding President of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao and internationally renowned violinist, was elected Vice Chairperson of the 10th Executive Committee of the Chinese Musicians’ Association.
The Congress was held in Beijing from June 27 to 28. Attendees reviewed and approved the work report, revised the Constitution of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, and elected the new leadership body of the Association. Celebrated conductor Zhang Guoyong was elected Chairperson of the 10th Chinese Musicians’ Association. President Lu Siqing, together with fourteen other distinguished representatives from the music community—Yu Hongmei, Wang Cui, Wang Rui, Wang Xiaoliang, Wu Lan Tuya, Tian Yan, Li Xincao, Yang Qifang, Yang Yandi, He Muyang, Zhao Lin, Meilang Duoji, and Lei Jia—was elected Vice Chairperson.
Since his teenage years, President Lu Siqing has graced the world stage as one of China’s most outstanding musicians. In 1987, he won the Gold Medal at the 34th Paganini International Violin Competition, becoming the first oriental musician to receive this honour. Over the decades, Lu Siqing has not only continued to perform and present outstanding artistic works to the public and his generation, but has also served as a global artist bridging Eastern and Western cultures, building an international cultural and artistic exchange bridge. He has always regarded philanthropy as an important responsibility of an artist, dedicating himself to charity performances, public music education, and cultural support programmes. His personal journey has inspired generations of young musicians to pursue their artistic dreams with courage and determination.
More importantly, in recent years Lu Siqing has devoted himself wholeheartedly to music education. As Founding President of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao, he has led the School in nurturing successive cohorts of young Chinese musicians who are now making their mark on the world stage, steadily advancing towards the goal of becoming a “cradle of future musicians.”
This election as Vice Chairperson of the Chinese Musicians’ Association is not only a high recognition of President Lu Siqing’s exceptional artistic achievements and contributions, but also signifies that he will join hands with an even broader range of forces to present more and better works to audiences in China and around the world, and to make even greater contributions to the high-quality development of youth music education in China and the country’s musical enterprise as a whole.
This honour also inspires all faculty and students of The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao to continue rooting in Qingdao while connecting with the world, guided by the philosophy of holistic education, and committed to nurturing future musicians who possess both a deep sense of national commitment and global competence.
