Professor Wang Kaiwei received his bachelor's degree from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music under the guidance of renowned vocal educator Professor Ge Chaozhi. He then furthered his studies in the United States with a full scholarship from The Juilliard School, specializing in opera and art song performance, and obtained a Master of Music degree in 1989.
Since 1989, he has been active internationally as a professional singer, acclaimed for his exceptional singing, acting, and stage presence. In 1993, he was invited by the world-renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti to participate in his private masterclass in Italy, which was also part of Pavarotti’s 25th Anniversary Concert with the Metropolitan Opera, broadcast on CBS television in the United States.
In September 2010, he was appointed to the Vocal and Opera Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Between 2016 and 2021, he produced operas such as Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro, La Traviata, and a series of Classic Opera Excerpts Concerts. These productions were highly praised for their technical difficulty, artistic quality, efficiency, and performance impact, ranking among the best in China’s higher music education institutions. He also established a systematic approach to opera performance training, contributing significantly to the pedagogy and promotion of opera in China.
Since 2019, he has served as Executive Director of the Zhou Xiaoyan Opera Center, overseeing opera productions, performances, and international academic exchange programs.
He has received numerous awards, including: Zhou Xiaoyan Teaching Award(2021)、Shanghai Municipal Teaching Achievement Award(2022)、Huang Zi Teaching and Research Award (First Prize, 2022)、Excellent Production Award at the 5th China Opera Festival for La Traviata(2023)。
