aoying Wang studied under renowned pianists including Professor Danwen Wei, Head of the Piano Department at the Central Conservatory of Music; Professors Colin Stone and Gordon Fergus-Thompson at the Royal Academy of Music; and Professor Deniz Gelenbe, former Head of Keyboard at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. She has also received guidance from world-class artists such as Mitsuko Uchida, Christopher Elton, Pascal Rogé, Norma Fisher, Olivier Gardon, Hamish Milne, and Eduardo Delgado. With a strong interest in Baroque music, she was admitted to study a second major in harpsichord under Steven Devine at Trinity Laban, where she received the FTCL and the annual Harpsichord Award.

 

She has won numerous international music awards, scholarships, and honors, including the 2018 TL Raymond Russel Prize, the 2017 Leonard Smith and Felicity Young Competition First Prize, the 2017 Big Ben Award – UK Ten Outstanding Chinese Young Leaders, the Leverhulme Arts Scholarship, the Alfred Kitchin Scholarship, Trinity Scholar Award, and Trinity College London Scholar Award.

 

As an outstanding representative of young Chinese musicians abroad, she has been interviewed by media such as Xinhua News Agency, Phoenix TV Europe, BBC Music Magazine, and overseas student publications. An active international performer, Yaoying has been invited to give over a hundred recitals at prestigious venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Purcell Room, Kings Place, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St John's Smith Square, St James's Piccadilly, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. She has also participated in festivals such as the Perugia Music Festival, London Masterclasses, and the Nice International Summer Academy, collaborating with many acclaimed musicians and orchestras.

 

Bryce Morrison, noted critic for Gramophone magazine, praised her as “a young pianist with promise… she has a natural talent for Russian Romantic music.” The official media of the Chapel of St Peter and St Paul described her recital as “an amazing performance… creating a beautiful atmosphere.” Celebrated pianist Gordon Fergus-Thompson has said, “Yaoying is one of the most gifted young pianists in her generation.”

 

In 2018, she gave the London premiere of a new work by American composer Stephen Montague. In 2019, she was invited by Xinhua News Agency to record “My Motherland and I” with Professor Jiafeng Chen of the Royal Academy of Music, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the PRC. As a Porsche Music Ambassador and Young Steinway Artist, she has presented crossover concerts and masterclasses internationally. A signed artist with the European label KNS Classical, she released the album *Pas de Deux* in 2024.

 

Yaoying has over ten years of teaching experience. Her students have been admitted to leading institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and the Purcell School. She has been invited to judge international competitions including the London Young Musician Competition, the Steinway Youth Piano Competition, the Singapore International Piano Competition, and the Kawai Asia Piano Competition. Her students have repeatedly won top prizes in contests such as the British Music Society Award, the New Talent British International Youth Music Festival Gold Prize, the Cordes Award, the Singapore International Youth Piano Competition First Prize, the Kawai Asia Piano Competition National Final First Prize, and the Magnolia International Music Festival First Prize.
