Wang Yi was awarded a full Leverhulme Arts Scholarship to pursue a Professional Performance APD in Violin at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she studied solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire under Susanne Stanzeleit, Nathaniel Vallois, and Zoe Beyers. She has participated in numerous chamber music festivals, including the Birmingham International Piano Chamber Music Festival. Wang Yi also earned a Master’s degree with Distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music, studying with Callum Smart. Earlier in her career, she studied violin under renowned violin educators Wang Jinjun in Chongqing and Rao Shuyang in Sichuan.
Wang Yi has participated in music festivals such as the Benslow Music Festival in Hitchin, UK, the Cadenza Summer Course in Bushey, the 7th Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival in Lucca, Italy, and the La Mariette Masterclass in Parçay-sur-Vienne, France. She has received guidance from eminent musicians including Krzysztof Wegrzyn, Eszter Haffner, Jan Bjøranger, Alissa Margulis, Leland Chen, and Tymur Melnyk. In 2021, she won the Gold Prize in the Sonata Group at the London Young Musician Competition and third prize in the violin category at the Primuz International Strings Competition.
Wang Yi is known for conveying her passion for life, respect, and memories through her unique musical expression and vibrant tonal palette. Eszter Haffner once praised her playing as "full of fiery passion, fluid tenderness, and exceptional talent."
