Born in Qingdao, Shandong in 1994, Wen Xin began studying violin with her mother at the age of five. In 2006, she was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music Affiliated Middle School, where she studied under Professor Tong Weidong. In 2011, she was accepted into the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media), studying with renowned violinist Professor Ulf Schneider. She graduated with both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in 2015 and 2017, respectively, both with top honors. In 2021, Wen Xin pursued her Doctorate at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg under Professor Sebastian Hamann, earning her doctorate with distinction in 2023. During her studies, she received the DAAD Promos Scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service.

 

In 2017, Wen Xin was awarded a full scholarship and was accepted into the Kronberg Academy Masterclass in Germany, where she studied under the esteemed violinist and pedagogue Professor Boris Kuschnir, receiving high praise. During her studies in Germany, Wen Xin was selected as a violin student representative at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, where she had the opportunity to study with violin legends such as Ida Haendel and Professor Mauricio Fuks. From 2014 to 2015, she was awarded full scholarships to attend the Talis Festival and Academy in Switzerland and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Masterclass in Germany, where she studied under Professor Pamela Frank and Professor Saschko Gawriloff.

 

In 2015, upon the recommendation of the renowned violinist Professor Hagai Shaham, Wen Xin performed as a soloist at the "Highlight" concert at the ISA International Music Festival in Austria, earning widespread acclaim. She was also invited as a violin soloist to perform at the "Grieg and Brahms" themed Musiktage Festival in Salzgitter, organized by the Ministry of Culture of Lower Saxony, Germany. A prominent German music critic wrote in his review: "It was a deeply moving concert, each sonata had its own distinctive style. Wen Xin’s artistry was layered, contrasting, and emotionally rich. Her performance left a lasting impression."

 

Wen Xin has received numerous awards, including second prize at the CCTV Arts TV Competition (Qingdao), first prize (Gold) at the Dandelion Cup China Art Newcomer Selection Competition, and first prize at the Shandong Youth Arts Grand Prix. She has performed with many world-renowned musicians, including pianist and conductor Christoph Eschenbach, conductors Paavo Järvi, Kent Nagano, composer Tan Dun, conductor Zhang Xian, pianist Martha Argerich, tenor Juan Diego Flórez, violinist Sergei Dogadin, and clarinetist Martin Fröst.

 

Wen Xin has extensive experience in both orchestral performance and education. In 2017, she became the first Chinese member of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra Academy in Germany. In 2018, she was appointed as a first violinist with the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra and later secured a tenured position as Associate Concertmaster of the Bremerhaven Philharmonic Orchestra, becoming the orchestra's youngest concertmaster. Since 2022, she has been a violin faculty member at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, becoming the first Chinese violin professor at the institution.
