Born in Qingdao, Shandong, in 1998, Wang Xiubao began studying the oboe at the age of 10 under Professor Nie Lijia at Shandong University of Arts. In 2011, he continued his studies with Professor Jin Jingchun at the Central Conservatory of Music. In 2012, Wang was admitted to the Central Conservatory of Music Affiliated Middle School under the tutelage of Professor Zhu Dun. In 2013, he attended the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp and was also accepted into the pre-college program at the Gustav Mahler Private University for Music in Austria, studying with the renowned German oboist and educator Professor Michael Turnovsky.

 

In 2016, Wang pursued further studies in Germany with Professors Céline Moinet at the Hochschule für Musik Dresden and Lin Qing at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig. In September of that year, he enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik Saar for his undergraduate studies, where he studied with the world-renowned oboist Philippe Tondre and became one of his distinguished students. Wang’s orchestral performance studies, oboe pedagogy, and chamber music training were guided by leading figures such as Stephane Egeling (Principal Oboist, Aachen Symphony Orchestra), Matthieu Petitjean (Paris Conservatoire), and Sébastien Giot (Principal Oboist, Orchestre de Paris). In 2020, Wang graduated with an A grade for his bachelor's degree and continued his studies in the master's program at the Hochschule für Musik Saar. In 2022, he once again graduated with an A grade, earning his master's degree, and was accepted into the school’s Doctor of Performance program.

 

During his studies, Wang gained extensive professional orchestral experience, having worked with top German orchestras such as the Sinfonieorchester Aachen, Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and Orchester Hagen Ost Wind Orchestra. He has collaborated with world-class musicians, including Guilhaume Santana, Kun-Woo Paik, Carolin Widmann, Christopher Ward, and Bernhard Stopp.

 

In 2013, Wang Xiubao founded the SOM Chamber Ensemble in Beijing, which has since organized and performed nearly 100 concerts and public lectures across China and internationally, including in Germany, Austria, France, and the Netherlands. In December 2016, he was selected for the Youth Music Culture Guangdong (YMCG) Symphony Orchestra, with which he toured Guangzhou, Taiwan, and Hong Kong alongside cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In 2017, he won third place in the Woodwind Category at the 2nd Danubia Talents International Music Competition in Hungary. In July 2018, he participated in the Stuttgart International Music Week and was invited to perform at the opening concert of the 2019 Music Week. In August, he was named an ambassador artist for the Guarneri International Music Festival. From 2021 to 2023, Wang was invited as a soloist to perform oboe concertos with the Furtwangen Cathedral Symphony Orchestra in Germany.

 

In 2023, Wang won the Gold Prize in the Professional All-Age Group and the Modern Composition Group at the International Schubert Competition, where he was also awarded the Best Interpretation Prize. He also secured second place in the Wind Instrument Category at the Opus International Music Competition, organized by the Life and Art Foundation in Poland. In June, he won the Platinum Award and Modern Composition Award in the Professional Category at the Global Music Awards. In 2024, his original oboe composition SAN was selected for publication by Ege Publishing in Germany and was officially released in Europe in July.

 

During his ten years of study in Europe, Wang Xiubao has also focused on teaching, oboe techniques related to breath control, and research on oboe repertoire. He has composed and arranged numerous works for the oboe, organized and translated foreign resources, and explored chamber music performance studies. His published article, "Analyzing the Breathing of Oboe Players with the Assistance of Computerized Tomography (MRI) Technology," has been well-received by industry experts. Additionally, his educational videos on wind instrument breathing techniques and oboe reed making have garnered tens of thousands of views across various online platforms. Several of his students have won competition awards and received offers from prestigious music institutions and universities in the United States, Germany, and Austria.
