Wang Xiubao was born in Qingdao, Shandong, China in December 1998. He initiated piano lessons at the age of 4 and began oboe studies at 10. He studied under Professor Jin Jingchun in 2010.

 

In 2012, Wang Xiubao was admitted to the attached middle school of the Central Conservatory of Music, where he studied under Professor Zhu Dun. During this period, he served as the principal oboist for the Beijing Fengtai Church Wind Orchestra and deputy principal oboist for the Beijing Chamber Music Orchestra.

 

In July 2014, he gained admission to the Hong Kong Youth Music Camp. Subsequently, in September, he enrolled in the preparatory program at Mahler Private Music University in Austria, studying under the guidance of educator and oboe professor Michael Turnovsky.

 

In 2016, Wang Xiubao studied under Professor Céline Moinet in Dresden, Germany. In June of the same year, he received admission offers from the College of Music Dresden and the University of Music Saarbrücken. He subsequently commenced undergraduate studies in September at the University of Music Saarbrücken, pursuing a Bachelor's degree under the guidance of oboe professor Philippe Tondre (principal oboist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, professor at the Curtis Institute of Music, International Chair Royal Northern College of Music, and principal oboist of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe). He studied for seven years under Professor Philippe Tondre.

 

In December 2016, he was selected to join the YMCG Symphony Orchestra for the 2017 Guangdong International Music Week. He toured with the orchestra and renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma in Guangzhou, Taipei, and Hong Kong.

 

In September 2017, Wang Xiubao achieved third place in the wind section at the 2nd Danube International Music Talent Competition in Hungary.

 

In July 2018, he participated in the Stuttgart International Music Festival, securing the top position in the competition and earning an invitation to perform at the opening concert of the 2019 Music Festival.

 

In 2020, he graduated with an outstanding A-level score from the University of Music Saar, earning a Bachelor's degree. Subsequently, he continued his studies to pursue a Master's degree.

 

In 2021 and 2022, Wang Xiubao was invited as a soloist to collaborate with the German Völklingen Church Symphony Orchestra, performing oboe concertos.

 

In 2022, he earned a Master's degree with an A-level graduation score. He graduated with a Konzertexamen degree in 2024

 

In 2023, Wang Xiubao secured second place in the woodwind instrument category at the Opus International Music Competition organized by the Polish Arts and Life Foundation. In June, he was honored with the Platinum Prize in both the Professional Category for All Ages and the Modern Works Category at the USM Competition.

 

He has been invited to perform in various European cities by several symphony orchestras, wind ensembles, and chamber music performers in Germany and Austria. Notable collaborations include renowned orchestras such as the Aachen Symphony Orchestra, the Neubrandenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, and the OHO Orchestra. He has collaborated with esteemed musicians like Guilhaume Santana, Kun-Woo Paik, Carolin Widmann, and Christopher Ward.

 

In 2024, Wang Xiubao's original oboe composition "SAN" was officially published in Europe.

 

During his ten years of study in Europe, Wang Xiubao also dedicated himself to teaching and to research related to oboe technique and breath control. His work extended to composing and arranging oboe repertoire, organizing and translating foreign-language materials, and studying chamber music performance. He has published several notable articles, including “An Analysis of Oboists' Breathing with the Aid of Computerized Tomography (MRI) Technology,” which has been well received by experts in the field.

 

Additionally, Wang Xiubao created and edited educational videos on topics such as wind instrument breathing techniques and oboe reed-making, which have garnered tens of thousands of views across multiple social media platforms. Many of his students have won awards in competitions and received offers from renowned music academies and universities in the United States, Germany, and Austria.
