Yang Tong embarked on his musical journey at the age of four, starting with the violin and transitioning to saxophone and clarinet at thirteen under the guidance of Professor Su Jianpei at the Central Conservatory of Music. At eighteen, he honed his skills at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music under Professors Shaposhnikova and Valonsov. Continuing his studies in 2005 under Professor Marie-Bernadette Charrier in Bordeaux, France, Yang Tong excelled, earning a Diploma of Musical Studies (D.E.M) with top honors. He further developed his expertise with Parisian saxophonist Pierre-Stéphane Meugé and in 2008, received a Master Performer's Diploma from the Lausanne Conservatory of Music in Switzerland.

 

Between 2012 and 2014, Yang Tong held the position of chief judge for the Hong Kong Wind Orchestra and served as a judge for wind music competitions in Macau. He has been a prominent figure at the World Saxophone Congress, participating in the 14th to 18th editions and premiering numerous works internationally. Representing esteemed brands, he is an ambassador for Henri Selmer Paris and a global artist for D'Addario, and founded the Asian Clarinet and Saxophone Association.

 

Since 2011, Yang Tong has been a faculty member at the Central Conservatory of Music in the Orchestral Instruments Department. He has organized and performed in several noteworthy concerts, including collaborative teacher-student performances in various locales such as Ningxia University and Shenzhen Concert Hall, extending to international venues in Malaysia. Yang Tong's students have achieved international acclaim, winning prestigious awards like the "National Top Innovative Talent Award," a gold medal at the 5th Stockholm International Music Competition for Woodwinds, a silver medal at the 8th Vladivostok International Competition for Young Performers, and the top prize in the senior saxophone category at the 14th "Ohrid Pearls" competition in North Macedonia. Beyond his teaching duties, Yang Tong holds guest professorships and supervises master's theses at renowned institutions such as the Stuttgart State Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Germany and Raffles Music College in Singapore.

 

Furthermore, Yang Tong's global engagements reflect his extensive influence in the music world. He has led solo and concerto concerts, and delivered lecture-recitals at some of the world’s leading institutions and venues. These include the Trinity College of Music in London, Duquesne University School of Music in Pittsburgh, Almería Higher Conservatory of Music in Spain, Parma Conservatory of Music in Italy, Melbourne Conservatory of Music in Australia, Jeju Arts Center in Korea, Mahidol University in Thailand, Silpakorn University in Thailand, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Taipei National University of the Arts, National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Wuhan Conservatory of Music, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, Zhongshan Park Music Hall, Tianjin Grand Theater, Shenzhen Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall, Goethe Cultural Center in Thailand, Bangkok Christian College, University of Malaya, and University of Manila College of Music.
