Professor Yang Gefang, a distinguished violinist, was educated under esteemed teachers such as Gao Yi, Zou Tingheng, and Lin Yaoji in China, as well as Sassmannshaus and DeLay in the USA. He performs on a historic 1707 violin crafted by Giuseppe Guarneri.

 

In 1992, Professor Yang Gefang was distinguished as the first violinist of the renowned Alexander String Quartet and embraced roles as a professor at San Francisco State University and as the Artistic Director at the Morrison Chamber Music Center. His 1998 rendition of "Beethoven: String Quartets" with the Alexander String Quartet was celebrated by The Boston Globe as the year's best album recording. His significant contributions to music and education have been acknowledged with honorary doctorates from Allegheny College and St. Lawrence University in 1995 and 1998, respectively.

 

Throughout his remarkable career, Professor Yang has become one of the few Chinese-born global masters of chamber music. He has graced stages in prestigious concert halls across key cities worldwide including London, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Frankfurt, Prague, Madrid, Rome, Dublin, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Miami, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, and major venues in China like the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Shanghai Concert Hall, and Beijing Concert Hall. His performances and recordings have been showcased on television and radio across Europe, the U.S., and China, and featured in esteemed publications like The Strad Magazine, Strings Magazine, Deutsche Grammophon, Classical Music UK, Chamber Music America, The New York Times Magazine, CCTV Music Channel, and Music Weekly.

 

In the realm of education, Professor Yang has mentored numerous young musicians to considerable acclaim, including the Vivace Quartet, which clinched the silver medal at the Ysaÿe International Music Competition in Brussels in 2021. His dedication to nurturing talent continues to leave a significant impact on the music world.
