In 2004, Dong Lei was admitted to the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in China and learned after Prof. JIA Guoping. He demonstrated exceptional talent and graduated with honors before scheduled graduation time in 2008. In the same year, he was admitted to composition department at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar, Germany, for master's degree under the mentorship of Prof. Michael Obst.
Dong Lei served as a representative at the 8th Qingdao Writers' Association Congress, Vice Chairman of the Qingdao Qin Island Musicians Association, Deputy Chairman of the Qingdao Pop Music Committee, a Youth Lecturer appointed by the Communist Youth League Qingdao Municipal Committee, and the conductor and leader of the Xuánle Chamber Choir.
Dong Lei's musical endeavors have taken him around the world, representing Qingdao in numerous international cultural exchange events. As the conductor and resident composer of the Xuánle Chamber Choir, he has led the choir on tours to over 20 cities in China.
Beyond the stage, Dong Lei has devoted more than a decade to music education. His students have successfully gained admission to prestigious institutions both in China, such as the Central Conservatory of Music and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and abroad.
