Dual Master of Cello of the Central Conservatory of Music in China and the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels
The First Chinese to Gain the Highest Chamber Music Performance Diploma of Europe
Born in a musical family, LIU Bojun learned to play the cello under his father’s guidance since childhood. He was admitted to the Orchestral Instruments Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in 2008 and learned after Prof. YU Mingqing, a famous cello educator and performer in China. In 2012, he was recommended for admission to the Orchestral Instruments Department of the Central Conservatory of Music to pursue a master’s degree with excellent results in all subjects. During the school years, LIU has won National Scholarship many times and was the principal cellist of the National Youth Orchestra of China, the principal cellist of the China Youth Nationalities Orchestra, and the principal cellist of the Chamber Orchestra of the Central Conservatory of Music, and attended world tours with the orchestras for many times. In October 2012, as the principal cellist of the Chamber Orchestra of the Central Conservatory of Music, LIU participated in the recording of the “My Music Hall” series of albums organized and released by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.
LIU Bojun received the Outstanding Performance Award (ensemble) at the 2013 Chinese Golden Bell Award for Music. In 2014, he won the Gold Prize at the first Busan International Cello Competition. Additionally, he has served as the judge for graded examination at the Central Conservatory of Music. In 2016, LIU went to the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels for the second master’s degree in cello, and learned after Prof. Jeroen Reuling. During his study there, he served as the principal cellist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels. In 2017, he created the “Yan” string quartet in Belgium. He also became the first Chinese student to gain the highest cello diploma of chamber music in Europe, and learned after Prof. Eric Robberecht and Prof. Guy Danel.
He has performed all over the world, and has been invited to attend important music festivals while studying in Europe, such as the Schiermonnikoog Chamber Music Festival in the Netherlands, the Cinquantenaire Music Festival, Silly Spring Music Festival, and Midis Minimes Music Festival in Belgium; the Haus Marteau Chamber Music Festival in Germany; and the Sion Summer International Music Festival and Chillon Castle Music Festival in Switzerland. He held two solo recitals in Brussels in April and June 2018, respectively. In July 2018, he was invited by the “La Bellone” Theater to attend the string quartet chamber music concert and made a hit.
