Wang You began his classical guitar training at a young age with world-renowned professor CHEN Zhi and then went to the United States to study with Denis Azabagic, Sergio Assad, and Oscar Ghiglia. WANG You received his Master Degree in Classical Guitar Performance in 2011 at Roosevelt University. In 2022, he continued his Artist Diploma study at Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.


Wang You has received first prizes in more than ten major competitions, including but not limited to the 2nd Indiana International Guitar Festival & Competition, the Louisville International Guitar Competition, and the ECU Summer Guitar Workshop Competition. He also received the second prize in the Hong Kong 3rd International Guitar Competition. In 2013, You Wang won 4th Prize in the world’s most prestigious guitar competition GFA (Guitar Foundation of America), becoming the first Chinese guitarist in history to win an award in such a competition. WANG You has been invited to various international competitions as an adjudicator and guest performer. 


In 2012, You Wang was appointed classical guitar associate professor at UIC (University Of Illinois at Chicago). His students have been admitted to world-renowned music colleges and universities, including the Manhattan School of Music in New York, the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and the Chicago College of Performing Arts, etc., and his students have won important awards in China and international competitions.
