1. What kind of school is the Yehudi Menuhin School?

Yehudi Menuhin founded The Yehudi Menuhin School in England in 1963 and it has become one of the world's most renowned and influential schools for talented young musicians. The School has always been just as Yehudi Menuhin intended when he founded it: a place for musically-talented students from all over the world to nourish their talent and share their enthusiasm of music; a place allowing students from all backgrounds to achieve their full potential and a school which values a sense of responsibility, tolerance and concern for others.For over half a century, The Yehudi Menuhin School has been a leader in the field of music education, with many alumni that are now world-renowned musicians including violinists Tasmin Little, Lu Siqing, Nicola Benedetti and Alina Ibragimov; cellists Colin Carr and Paul Watkins; pianists Melvin Tan, Kathryn Stott, Charles Owen and Paul Cockle, as well as many other of the world’s leading musicians in some of the finest orchestras, chamber ensembles, institutions of higher education or other music-related fields. Therefore the School is also known as “the cradle of talented musicians”.

2. What are the admissions standards of the School?

The School admissions process is divided into three parts: Preliminary Audition, Full Audition and Campus Experience Day (optional). The Application form should be submitted along with recordings of the applicant performing two contrasting pieces of their own choice on their first instrument applied on the Registrar (current work, within two months). The Directors of Music will review the application and recordings and then decide whether to invite the applicant to take part in a full audition. Applicants who successfully pass the pre-screening portion of the application process will be invited to register for an audition. At present, the audition is both online and offline. An expert evaluation team composed of principals, music directors, foreign principals, relevant department heads and teachers will further evaluate the applicant’s professional ability online. Students should go to the designated place within the specified time according to the notice of the admissions office, and the bilingual teaching assistant will assist them to complete the audition on site. At the same time, the executive principal will have an interview with parents or guardians. We will inform the applicant of the audition result within 3 working days after the audition. Students who performed excellently will be provided with an admission letter. For the applicants who need further evaluation in terms of artistic performance and behavior, the School will require them to participate in the Campus Experience Day. 3. Based on the current nine-year compulsory education system in China, do the students at the School have full school status?

Under the policy of the current Chinese current nine-year compulsory education system, students who meet the School roll management regulations of Shandong Province will have their school status automatically after the enrollment. We will handle the specific situation for each family accordingly by the School enrollment personnel to assist the parents.

4. How is the School curriculum set up?

The curriculum of the School has 6 categories which include: First study, General Musicianship, Second study, Cambridge English courses, General Education courses and Extra-curricular Activities. First study is a 1-2 hours per week course based on the different stages of the students’ musical development. General Education courses are dictated by the national standards of the compulsory education system and are combined with Cambridge English courses to strengthen students' listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The Senior High School phase includes IGCSE and A-LEVEL courses.
