During the summer vacation in July, the campus of the Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao (YMSQ) remains vibrant. Embraced by the gentle sea breeze, a multitude of events, including music competitions and summer camps, await young music enthusiasts from across China.
On July 18th, Menuhin Night—“Home of the Cello” 2023 Qingdao Expert Concert, took place in the academic building atrium of YMSQ. Thirty-two world-renowned artists, including Professor Yu Mingqing, cello faculty director at YMSQ, and associate professor Chen Xueqing, delivered a splendid performance.
This atrium is characterized by remarkable acoustic design, offering a harmonious blend of functionality and artistic expression. The concert was a grand gathering and celebration themed on the cello, with over 600 audiences from all over China appreciating the elegant and profound tones of the cello and the harmonious fusion of architecture and art at YMSQ.
From July 17th to 22nd, the “2023 French Horn Summer Camp” was held at YSMQ, featuring instructions provided by Professor Man Yi and Gu Cong to French horn players from all over China. They were impressed the professionalism and international atmosphere of YMSQ.
During the summer camp, a “flash mob” involving more than 300 horn students, conducted by YMSQ horn professor Gu Cong, garnered much attention. They played “Ode to the Motherland” in unison, which was exhilarating and stirred the emotions of all in attendance.
From July 23rd to 28th, YMSQ hosted the Piano Summer School and the Musical Theater Summer School, attracting students with rich course offerings and unique teaching methods. A related special report on these programs will be provided after the closing ceremony.
In July, YMSQ also organized enrollment exams for students from across China who harbor dreams of music. They gained a deep understanding of the school’s educational philosophy, faculty, curriculum, and career planning and immersed themselves in the artistic atmosphere of the campus nestled between the mountains and the sea. They were also given the opportunity to experience the exceptional learning environment and the international atmosphere and access professional music facilities.
In admission audition, students were not only assessed for their professional abilities but were also evaluated from the perspective of musical potential and comprehensive quality. Based on this evaluation, individualized education and cultivation plans would be provided for the students. The summer admission season at YMSQ is nearing its end, and available slots for the new semester are limited. We welcome the inquiry of young music enthusiasts.
