Have You Heard Lu Siqing’s Version of "Butterfly Lovers" in Class?

Despite his busy schedule as a performer, President Lu Siqing regularly returns to the school to provide guidance and instruction. On April 13th, President Lu Siqing arranged a special violin master class to share his invaluable violin performance secrets.

President Lu Siqing praised Wang Qi for her technical skills, musicality, and tonal quality. He advised Wang to enhance the dialogue, response, and interaction between the piano and violin to add more layers to the music, using the violin strings to tell a rich and engaging story and convey the deeper meaning behind the piece.

President Lu Siqing mentioned that long pieces can easily cause auditory fatigue for the audience. Therefore, he suggested making the transitions and free sections more expansive and freer to add variety to the music. He demonstrated how to provide detailed guidance at key points in the piece to make it fuller and more vivid.

 

Bach Solo Violin Sonata in A minor No.2 Fuga

President Lu emphasized that controlling the rhythm is crucial in Bach's works. He advised that before playing, one should fully internalize the rhythm and accumulate the necessary emotion. Different parts of the bow and varying pressures should be used to shape the music's contours, rises, and flows.

 

Violin Concerto "Butterfly Lovers"

Graduating student Li Hao took on the classic piece "Butterfly Lovers," which he prepared for his graduation concert. President Lu acknowledged Li Hao's musical understanding and guided him on how to play the piece more lightly, elegantly, and charmingly. He explained how to clearly articulate the changes in dynamics of the main melody, making each note full of vitality. He also shared his own performance secrets for "Butterfly Lovers" and demonstrated them live, which greatly delighted the students, teachers, and parents attending the master class. Having the opportunity to hear Lu Siqing's live rendition of "Butterfly Lovers" in class is a rare and valuable experience, unique to The Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao.
