Wei Danwen began to learn the piano at the age of four. At the age of nine, he gave his first public performance. At the age of 12, he entered the famous High School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music.Under the careful guidance of Professor Li Qifang, he won the first place of the "Pearl River Award" National Piano Competition at the age of 17.In 1983, Wei Danwen was admitted to the Piano Department of the Central Conservatory of Music. In the following year, he studied in the United States and graduated from the Juilliard School in the United States in 1992.

As a professional performer and a Steinway global artist, He has traveled to dozens of countries across the United States and Eurasia, giving hundreds of concerts. In 1991, when he was still in school, he was selected by the famous conductor Zupinmeta to cooperate with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and perform at the opening ceremony of the Bicentennial concert series of the death of Mozart at the Lincoln Center, which was a great success.He has also performed with many famous orchestras such as New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, New York Chamber Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, China Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and other Symphony Orchestra.

 

In addition to teaching piano, he has been involved in the conducting field in recent years, serving as a permanent conductor of the Perugia International Music Festival since 2013.The orchestra include the Italian Soloista di Perigia Chamber Orchestra, Hungarian Budapest Youth Symphony Orchestra, Israel Ashdot Symphony Orchestra, Spanish Alcante University Symphony Orchestra, Czech Virtuosi Brunenses Chamber Orchestra, Famous Chamber Orchestra of Central Conservatory of Music, Shenyang Symphony Orchestra, Zhengzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Xiamen Song and Dance Theater Symphony Orchestra, etc.In 2019, Wei Danwen was hired as a permanent conductor of the Taipei International United Youth Symphony Orchestra.

 

After returning to China to teach, Wei's students have won many international and domestic competitions. Students have played concerts in Europe and America and held concerts in famous concert halls such as Lincoln Center and Kenky Hall in New York.Wei is also a distinguished professor of Shenyang Conservatory of Music, a visiting professor of China Conservatory of Music, Xi'an Conservatory of Music and Wenzhou University, and an honorary professor of Tianjin Conservatory of Music.
