On November 13th to 14th, 2023, the Beijing Forum for Symphonic Music was held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in China, bringing together more than 300 representatives of 187 international arts organizations from 30 countries and regions around the world who have long been dedicated supporters of cultural endeavors. Violinist Lu Siqing, the President of the Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao, was invited to attend. He delivered a keynote speech at the forum and gave an address at the closing ceremony.
Under the theme "Reaching for Innovation, Sharing for Prosperity", the forum actively encouraged exchanges and mutual learning to promote the prosperity of the arts. Three parallel sub-forums focused on various artistic topics. Sub-forum II specifically addressed the "New Forces, New Works—Contemporary Vision of Symphonic Music". President Lu Siqing began his speech with his experiences in recording for China Central Television (CCTV), emphasizing the need to "advance symphonic music with new technology". He shared that he has been a beneficiary of new technology and platforms; each of his recitals over the last two years has garnered nearly 30 million views, exerting a far-reaching influence. Hence, he firmly believes that new technology plays a pivotal role in disseminating and advancing classical music.
At the closing ceremony on November 14th, President Lu Siqing addressed the audience, expressing his aspirations for the forum. As a violinist, he envisioned this forum to serve as a platform and hub for collaboration and exchange between performers and symphony orchestras worldwide. He expected that it could facilitate a more comprehensive mutual understanding, smoother communication, and more diverse collaborations among exceptional performers from various professional backgrounds and numerous symphony orchestras across the globe. Lu Siqing, known as both a violinist and the President of the Yehudi Menuhin School Qingdao, is deeply committed to education. He demonstrates great concern and support for the development of young musicians and the education of teenage musical talents. He expressed his hope that the forum could provide a platform for outstanding young musicians and showcase the finest new symphonic music compositions to the world.
