Wu's musical journey began at the Music Middle School Affiliated to Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He completed both his undergraduate and master's degrees on full scholarships and earned the Schonberg Pianist Scholarship to study at the Mannes School of Music in the United States under the guidance of department chair Pavlina Dokovska. For his doctoral studies, he received another full scholarship to Northwestern University, where he studied with Alan Chow, the current chair of the piano department at the Eastman School of Music.

 

Wu has excelled in numerous international piano competitions, securing fourth place at the Iowa Piano Competition, first place at the Thaviu-Isaak Piano Competition, and top honors in the Northwestern University Concerto Competition and Mannes Concerto Competition. He has also made his mark in competitions such as the New Orleans, Viotti, and Gina Bachauer. In 2015, he was honored as the Luminarts Cultural Foundation Artist of the Year. Wu has graced the stages of prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Steinway Hall, the Chicago Cultural Center, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He has been invited to perform in commemorative concerts celebrating the birthdays of renowned composers like Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven at various embassies in New York. His performances have received media coverage from outlets like CBS, the Iowa City Press-Citizen, and the Northwestern Daily. WFMT Classical Radio has broadcast his performances in the "Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts" series, and WQXR, a classical music radio station, featured him in a "Young Artist Showcase" interview. He has also participated in music festivals, including the Gilmore Piano Festival and The International Keyboard Institute & Festival (IKIF).

 

Wu has collaborated with various artists, including performing the complete volume of Beethoven’s Sonatas for Piano and Violin with Todd Phillips, the lead violinist of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and Brahms Piano and Violin Sonatas with violinist Guillaume Molko. He had the privilege of premiering piano and percussion concertos composed by Martin Bresnick, the head of the composition department at Yale University. Pianist Nikolai Lugansky praised his performances, and CBS described him as the "best performer of the year." Grammy-winning conductor JoAnn Falletta also expressed admiration for his playing following their collaboration on Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3.

 

In recent years, Wu's teaching has yielded excellent results, with his students gaining admission to renowned institutions worldwide, including the Central Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Boston University, New England Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, and the Mannes School of Music. His students have also performed exceptionally in major domestic and international competitions.
