Yu Mingqing, is the first doctoral supervisor in China, is currently the professor of cello department at Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in China. Previously served as the head of Cello Teaching and the art director of Classical Chamber Orchestra in CCOM, Prof. Yu is currently the vice chair of the CCOM Orchestra Department, the chief executive of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the president of the Cello Society of the Chinese Musicians Association. Prof. Yu is also the artistic director of “Cello Family” Music Festival.
In 1980, Prof. Yu went to Belgium Mons Royal Conservatory for study, where he received Honored First-Class Diploma in Cello. Meanwhile, he was also rewarded with Artistic Diploma with highest distinction in chamber music and cello performance under the name of the Majesty King Baudouin of Belgium. While pursuing his diploma in Belgium, he was presented as the soloist with Royal Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and performed throughout the country, which won him great acclaim from both critics and the audiences.
Prof. Yu is passionate in performing as well as in international cultural exchange. He has presented numerous recitals and chamber concerts and he also led China Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of CCOM in series of performances in China, the United States and Europe. Prof. Yu has given master classes and lectures throughout China including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and across four continents, such as Singapore, Japan, Korea, the United States and Europe.
Carrying on an active career as a musician and an educator, Prof. Yu devoted himself to teaching for over four decades. Many of Prof. Yu’s students have achieved successful profession in classical music field and position in major orchestras in China and have also won honors in numerous international competitions.
